Being a host family can be a very rewarding experience. If you are interested and think that you have what it takes to become a host please fill out an application form. We are always interested in recruiting more host families so we would love to hear from you.
Benefits of being a host family
There are many different reasons why people become host families however the experience is always rewarding. Some of the benefits which hosts may enjoy include:

The reward of helping another person adapt to a new country
What is involved in being a host family?
The host family is expected to give the following basic services:
Provide 2 or 3 prepared meals per day, depending on which package is selected
Provide a furnished single room with a bed, desk, desk lamp and drawers (twin share also possible)
Allow students access to laundry if over 18 and do laundry for students under 18
Ensure that house is a safe environment to live in
Provide clear travel directions to and from their school
Close to public transport
Be a tolerant, friendly, helpful host
Legal Requirements of Host Family
Before you proceed, check that you are eligible to become a host family by fulfilling the below requirements:
Must be a current blue card holder (if taking students under the age of 18)
Forms can be found at http://www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au/employment/bluecard/applications.html
Must have public liability insurance
Can only have 2 homestay students under the age of 18 and 3 homestay students over the age of 18 legally living in your home at one time
East Coast will assist you in every way possible. If you have any enquires or need assistance either before or whilst a student is staying with you, we will happily answer any questions or give assistance where possible.
We have a host handbook which will help you prepare for having students living with you. This handbook also covers most situations which may arise during the stay.
We have a set of generic house rules that we encourage you to implement. This will help make the stay more comfortable for both yourself and your student.
If you are having any trouble with a student, please advice East Coast Homestay or the student’s education provider and we will take care of the matter from there.
Payments
Accommodation will be paid 4 weeks in advance by the student upon arrival. This initial fee is not refundable. If the student is staying for less than 4 weeks then the full amount equivalent to the entire length of the stay is to be paid.
After the initial 4 weeks period the student can agree to continue the arrangement with the host family or find alternate accommodation.
